Handcrafted Red Elm wood Shaving Set. This set has been turned from a Block of RED ELM ( That grows in the Eastern to Midwest US). It has a greyish white to light brown narrow sapwood, with heartwood that is reddish brown to dark brown in color. The grain can be straight ,but is often interlocked. The Brush Handle has a good stable feel to it along with the pure badger hair harvested from the badger pelt, darker in color, a bit firmer bristle that creates a great lather. The brush stands 4 1/2 inches (114.30mm) tall with the handle 2 3/8 inches (60.32mm) and the knot 2 1/4 inches (57.15mm). I've included a plastic display stand, although you may stand the brush handle on its end. You can't go wrong with the beautiful Lather Bowl. It measures approximately 2 7/8 inches (73.02mm)high and 3 1/8 inches (79.37mm) in diameter. The inside of the bowl will hold up to a 2 3/4 inch (69.85) soap puck. The Bowl fits very nicely in the palm of your hand , by letting you grip the sides and enabling you to easily whip up a generous amount of lather for shaving yourself.

I profiled the set with a few light rounded contours , so that they blend very nicely together. I sanded the set with different grades of sandpaper. I then applied Walnut Oil to seal both pieces. Following I waterproof the Bowl with epoxy , by sanding and reapplying the epoxy finish(note : if you look closely at the bottom of the bowl you will see various air bubbles that are hard to remove but the BOWL is definitely Water Proof( I've already tested a bowl I made for myself and still looks new and water proof). I've tested this technique with epoxy on other projects and it seems to work the best . The handle was finished with a few coats of CA Glue(Cyanoacrylate) I then finished both by using Micro-mesh to the grit grade of 12,000 and then buffed and apply a generous amount of Microcrystalline wax to protect the finish from water ,finger prints and smears. You now have a very well protected water proof Shaving Set. ( I have also signed the bottom of the Shave Bowl)(Please look carefully at each picture I've included, as I said earlier, the Epoxy bubbles show up in some spots do to the chemical reaction with the Walnut Sealant , so you might still see a few marks in the photos, but rest assure that the Bowl has been properly finished to repel water).

I've included a homemade Melt and Pour Shaving Soap Puck sampler. Note: The scent is not that strong, since I've used essential oils to give beneficial value to the soap puck. You will still enjoy the light scent.

NOTE: I have personally tried this shaving soap and it helps the blade glide smoothly, the essential oil in each of them have their own healthy properties. I've enjoy them very much.
